Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of drawing a custom pet sketch of a very adorable doodle. Apparently, he’s a big fan of the beach… But the adorableness doesn’t stop there. Turns out that his owner had the oh-so-brilliant idea of getting his sketch printed on a stretched canvas to hang in her home. She was kind enough to send me some photos. Thursday already? My, oh my. It’s funny how quickly the time flies when you’re standing in front of an easel. This past week I’ve seen an unexpected boost in sales of my custom Pet Sketches. Today I snagged a few free minutes so that I could whip up a doodle of this poodle-mix pup. His name is Darwin. Darwin the doodle. Swoon. Drawing him took twice as long as it should have because I kept getting lost in his eyes. And fur. And paws. Holy-moly, just look at those paws. Darwin, I would naturally select you any day. This morning I was overcome by the urge to paint a Toucan. That’s normal, right? I managed to suppress it until just before dinner, when I finally had to call an emergency studio session. We didn’t get around to eating dinner until 8:30. The lesson of the day? Sometimes paint trumps food. Especially when bright jungle green is involved. Untitled, 6″x6″ acrylic on gesso board I was feeling a bit anxious today, so I downloaded the most recent episode of This American Life, popped in my headphones, and took myself on a walk. I didn’t have a destination in mind, but it wasn’t really a surprise to me when I ended up at my favorite art supply store 1.5 miles from my house. And if a new tube of paint can’t cheer me up, I don’t know what will. I walked out with two new blues, and by the time I got home I had a painting in my brain just bursting to come out.
