Pet Portrait #82 – Gizmo
I spent most of this weekend working on a portrait of a sweet mix named Gizmo. He was someone’s best friend, and he passed away last year. I hope his portrait brings joy and happy memories to the home of those who loved him. If you’d like to give someone a pet portrait this holiday season, time is running out. I’m down to my last 6 spots for ordering portraits in 2012. Feel free to send me a note to begin the conversation if you think you might be interested! I had a perfect Sunday, completely by accident, of course. The sun was shining through the windows, filling my studio with that gorgeous light for painting. I opened the doors and the ever-so-fall-like breeze passed through. I had my cup of coffee, a fresh jar of water, and a handful of clean brushes. It was heaven. I spent the afternoon working on two small portraits. One of a Goldendoodle puppy named Bear, and another of a Wheaten named Kelly. I think they turned out rather nicely, don’t...

Most of my time is spent whipping up portraits of your four-footed friends, but every now and again I get a commission for something else. Something less…furry. The past few weeks, I’ve been working on this 1×4 foot long piece of the Chicago skyline at dusk. By the time I finished it, I thought it would look mighty fine hanging above my bed. *Sniff* Sometimes it’s just so hard to let go… I couldn’t share my progress on it before now because it was a super secret birthday gift for someone who may or may not follow my blog. Well, the birthday girl got to...

I’ve been working extra long hours this week to finish these four portraits before I jet off to Seattle for my granny’s 90th birthday party. Happy pre-birthday Grandma! I hope you passed on some of those longevity genes. If I have a chance to celebrate my 90th birthday, I think I’ll demand 90 varieties of cake (my favorite dessert) to mark the special occasion. Anyhow, here’s a little peek into my studio this week! Miles This happy-go-lucky hound mix rescue lives with his family in Washington, DC. Lucy and Zoe These sisters live with their family in the...

It was a snowy week in Chicago, and a busy week in my studio getting ready for my first craft show. I’ve been working on a mountain of mini portraits. They’re now scattered on every surface of my home, and I’m starting to feel like I live in a pet shop!
