Pet Talks: Crafty Fanny on perfect puppy names and working for your dinner

{Pet Talks — with your favorite bloggers. A new series in which I ask one of our favorite internet celebrities to spill the beans on their most hilarious pet-parent moments, and to share how their fur-balls have shaped their life.}

You’ve seen the blog Crafty Fanny, right?  If not, well, I suggest you get right to it.  After all, reading blogger Tiffany Moore’s motivating words is as delightful as strolling through a field of poppies in late spring.  And when I discovered she was mom to a cute rescue pooch, I asked her dish on life with her sweet dog Maggie…

How is it that Maggie came into your life?  How did you know she was ‘the one’?

We adopted Maggie from the Border Collie Rescue when she was just a baby. We had been working with them for a while to find the right puppy, and they emailed us when Maggie’s mom was dropped off just before she gave birth. We were able to take our pick from the litter and knew from the photos that Maggie (Crystal Gayle at the time!) was the one for us…luckily, she passed my boyfriend’s puppy-Jedi mind tricks when he went to pick her up!

What kind of dog is she and why did you pick the name Maggie?

Maggie is a border collie-mix. Her mom was a border collie, australian shepard mix. There were 3 un-neutered males on the ranch with her mom: a border collie, an australian shepard and a sheltie — it wasn’t until Maggie stopped growing (she’s maxed out at 22 pounds) that we realized her dad must have been the sheltie!

I’ve always really liked the name Maggie and when I was younger, my grandmother always had a dog named Maggie. I guess I grew up thinking it was a good name for a dog! And I like singing, so I wanted to be able to sing to her and “Wake up Maggie” is one of my favorite songs, so it worked out perfectly!

Tell me a funny story about your pooch :)

She is such a stubborn little dog! Mostly, I have nothing to complain about because she’s always been really well-behaved in terms of behavior; there’s been minimal chewing and she was super easy to house-break. But she love love loves attention and will stare you down until you give it to her. Like for hours. Staring and whining until you are ready to play! {Mainly though, this keeps me from being lazy since taking her for a good walk before I try to get computer stuff done is really all it takes to calm her down.}

She also has some weird eating patterns and, in true border collie fashion, really likes to work for her food. To the point where she’ll have a whole bowl of food sitting out, will be whining with hunger and won’t actually go to eat until you’ve thrown the frisbee for her. We’ve made this into a game, so now, every time we say to her, “Maggie, are you hungry?” she immediately looks at her frisbee and gets excited!

Why is she important to you? Does she inspire you creatively? Cheer you up after a rough day? Bring you your slippers and cook you dinner?

I really cannot imagine my life without her! We’ve had her for about a year and a half, and she has brought such a light to my life. To me, she is the embodiment of happiness and play and just loving life.

Also, it is so flattering to see how excited she is to see me after I’ve been gone all day (or a few minutes) or when I’m just out of the shower. I wish everyone in my life was that happy to see me!

Anything else you want to share…

I have always been a “dog person” but I think that pets are a really wonderful way to bring love into your life! So if you’re considering it, just know that there are so many amazing animals out in the world that only want to be loved and it’s such an amazing thing to be able to give them that love that they need! So if you’re considering getting a pet, I say do it! It will change your life and you will have different responsibilities, but it is sooo rewarding!!
