Rooster on Mars

Untitled, 6″x6″ acrylic on gesso board

I was feeling a bit anxious today, so I downloaded the most recent episode of This American Life, popped in my headphones, and took myself on a walk. I didn’t have a destination in mind, but it wasn’t really a surprise to me when I ended up at my favorite art supply store 1.5 miles from my house. And if a new tube of paint can’t cheer me up, I don’t know what will.

I walked out with two new blues, and by the time I got home I had a painting in my brain just bursting to come out.

What do you think?

I know it’s a departure from my typical style, but lately I’ve been inviting myself to explore, and experiment, and fail. While the experiments don’t always work out, I think I like this one.

My boyfriend, after coming home from a 14 hour long shift in the surgery department, suggested I title it “Rooster on Mars.” I’ll think on that…

  1. I LOVE it! More experiments, please! It delights and astonishes me how many different styles you have in that brain of yours. I love the texture, and the colors, too. Awesome!

    • Thanks friend! The powers that be say that artists should pick one style and stick to it, or else you’ll never make any sales. I have such a hard time with that, though. I feel like I’m too young to settle down ;)

  2. That is absolutely gorgeous! I love the way you used the gold in there!!!!
